A Fun and Exciting USTHS Batch '89 30th Anniversary Celebration

13 July 2019

On this day, we celebrated  UST High School Batch 89's 30th Anniversary. It was held at the Dr. Robert C. Sy Grand Ballroom, Thomasian Alumni Center, UST.

It was actually the first ever reunion that I ever attended and I truly had a great time.  Congratulations and Thanks to our organizers for a job well done! :)

Another reunion with the Paypon clan

08 April 2018

Today was the last big meet-up among the Paypon clan.  We were invited to Betty's Sansrival Restaurant in Quezon City by my cousin.

It was a chance to gather the members of the clan who weren't in Calayan or who weren't able to make it to Calayan to meet up with everyone  else.

Sam's 3rd birthday at Kenny Roger's Katipunan

07 April 2018

Today we celebrated Sam's 3rd birthday at Kenny Rogers Katipunan.

Despite just coming home from almost a day's travel from Calayan Island, the Paypon clan saw each other again here and it's like we aren't tired at all.  I guess that's what family is all about :)

Happy birthday Sam!  Thanks for the invite Sil and Sally! :)

2018 Calayan Adventure, Day 07 - Traveling back to Manila (Calayan-Claveria-Laoag-Manila)

06 April 2018

Goodbye Calayan Island!  Today is our last day on the island.  As early as 5AM, we were awake and having breakfast because our boat leaves at 7AM for Claveria Port.

From Claveria, we headed to Laoag where we waited for our scheduled bus ride home.

We booked the 8PM bus so that we'll all just sleep on the way home.

After around 11 hours on the bus, we arrived in Manila, safe but pretty tired. :)

2018 Calayan Adventure - Day 06 - Sagpat Family Farms and Despedida Dinner

05 April 2018

Today was dedicated to visiting our family's respective farms and properties.  For my Dad who hasn't been to the island in 20 years, this was like an eye-opener.  He was able to see how much the island has changed, even with just the little part that he'd seen.  I guess now he isn't going to wait 20 more years for him to return :D

Then, despedida dinner... a poignant time...

2018 Calayan Adventure - Day 05 - Ventura-Gaduang Nuptials, Night Swimming and a Bonfire

04 April 2018

Today was the much-awaited day for my niece Keith Joy and her long-time boyfriend Kelvin.  It's their Wedding Day and we were so honored to be part of their celebration!  Congratulations!!

Even after the reception ended in the afternoon, the party continued on with a bonfire at the beach in the evening :)

2018 Calayan Adventure - Day 04 - A Birthday/Family Reunion Celebration and a Sunset Tour in Punta Magsidel

03 April 2018

Traveling to my Dad's hometown is actually pretty insane considering the distance, modes of transport and time required to reach it.  But we made the journey out of love, out of familial responsibility and of gratitude for the people we consider our own.

One of the reasons for this trip happened today - a celebration of birthdays for Uncle Angel, Auntie Biyang and my Dad...

2018 Calayan Adventure - Day 03 - Hiking to Sibang Cove

02 April 2018

Aaah!  Sibang Cove - pristine white sand, blue-green waters, relative isolation... you're worth the 40 minute, grueling hike....

This was where we decided to have our family pictorial to commemorate the reunion of the Paypon siblings.

Food for the picnic was brought over by lampitaw, including relatives who weren't able to make the trek.

Happy to share our pictures with you! :)

2018 Calayan Adventure - Day 02 - Traveling to Calayan Island (Claveria to Calayan)

01 April 2018

Happy Easter everyone!  Today is the day we board the boat on our way to Calayan Island, my dad's hometown.  It's exciting because it's been 10 years since we were last there and the kids don't probably remember much about that trip, so this is like a new experience for them...

This post shows you our journey from Claveria to Calayan... Look out for more of the rest of the journey in the succeeding posts... :)

2018 Calayan Adventure: Day 01 - Traveling to Calayan Island (Manila-Tuguegarao-Claveria)

31 March 2018

Traveling to Calayan Island is a journey in itself.  This post covers the trip from Manila to Tuguegarao, then to Claveria.  We stayed overnight at a resort in Claveria because boats to Calayan only travel in the morning and at the very latest, noon.

The rest of the trip continues in the next posts :)

Another reunion 23 years in the making :)

15 February 2016

Belated Happy Valentine's day everyone!

I have a love-hate relationship with Valentine's day so I normally don't post anything about it.  I love it when I see people in a relationship sincerely celebrate their love and I hate it when it's the only day that your partner ever pays attention to you (and I'm not speaking from personal experience! haha) and celebrates it with you just because everybody else is.

Get-Together with College Buddies at Bugsy's Makati

12 January 2016

Another happy event to start the year 2016 - A reunion with College Buddies! Our buddy Marlon and his family were back in the Philippines for their annual vacation and naturally, we had a little get-together :)  It's a little impromptu because when balikbayans come back to the PI, their schedules are usually busy with many family gatherings and trips planned.  We can only be there when they say they're available on a particular day and/or time but that's okay because the important thing is that we see each other even if it's just a short while.

Family: Reunion with Paypon-Jose-Rosanes Family

26 July 2015

I hold family gatherings as exciting milestones in our lives.  Most of my family live abroad so whenever some of them come back to Manila, I make sure that we attend the reunions.  This time, it's my cousin Martha and her family that came back from Wisconsin.  Her Mom and Dad came ahead of them so we're one big happy family!

Food: Marikina Burrito Brothers and Crepeman

January 19, 2015

When I blogged about eating at Tamagoya's here, Patrick shared it on Facebook and my friend, Lily, saw it.  It was the trigger which caused us to set a date to meet up in Marikina when we come to get Stanley back from his parking in Stevie's house.  Lily mentioned so many food choices through text messages as we were trying to figure out where to meet.  She also told me to Google "Marikina Food Tour/Trip" to get an idea of what I want to eat.  The results were enough to make me drool hahha Finally, we limited our choices to Lilac street since we're already familiar with the location of Tamagoya.  Lilac Street is where you'll end up if you follow the B. Soliven Avenue where Tamagoya is.  Well, the date came and we first met up at Burrito Brothers at #69 Lilac Street, Marikina.

I didn't know what to expect so I was pleasantly surprised when we got to the location because the place seemed cozy.  Patrick was a bit worried because there was really no parking space in front of the location though.  Anyway, we got inside and saw Mother (we call her that because of a movie producer called Mother Lily) and it was like we just saw each other yesterday and not years ago.  It was a great feeling!!

We moved to a bigger table and we browsed the menu while chatting and catching up.  There were a number of choices of Mexican fare: Steak/Chicken burritos, Chicken Flautas, Tacos and Taco salads, Nachos, Chicken Fajitas, Quesadillas and more.  Patrick, Dana and Mother ordered steak burritos, I ordered the chicken flautas, Dylan had the Quesadillas and we ordered Nachos and Grilled Chicken Fajitas to share.  While we were waiting for our order, Patrick got up, took the poncho and hat from the hanger on the mall and put them on.  It was hilarious.  Since I wasn't sure if it was allowed, we asked the gyuys at the corner if we can fiddle with the costume and they said it was okay. :)  Patrick took the smaller set and put it on Dylan.  What do you think? hahaha

Mother and I have been friends for more than 20+ years and this was such a heartwarming reunion.  It was perfect timing that it was the holiday because of Pope Francis' visit otherwise we probably wouldn't have the time.  We picked a great spot to eat too because the food was great, it was reasonably priced, the place was clean and airy, and at that time there weren't too many people around yet.

Our next stop was at Crepeman because the kids wanted something sweet for dessert.  Since Mother already told me about it, I said "Why not?" since we're already in the vicinity.  So we drove down to Crepeman which was about 5 minutes away on the left side of Lilac street (if you're coming from Burrito Brothers).  We were the only people at the store probably because it was still off-peak hours.  The kids watched Kuya make and assemble the crepe.  They were quite excited about it.

If I remember correctly, the kids ordered the Ferrero which was crepe with Nutella and Nuts (P90).  Patrick ordered Mango which was crepe with sliced mango, chocolate spread, whipped cream and kisses (P90).  I ordered Peaches which was crepe with peaches, choco spread, whipped cream and kisses (P90).  Lily only had coffee.

Here are the pictures of their menu:

Peaches
I really liked the crepes because they're crispy ! Of course when you have something like peaches or mangoes, they will naturally soften the crepe so you have to eat it fast.  But the texture of the crepe complements well with the sweetness of the chocolate and the tangy taste of the peaches.  It was big enough to satisfy sugar cravings too :)  I liked the setup because it was small but practical and they have a clean bathroom too :)

I don't think this will be the last time we'll visit Marikina for a Marikina Food trip.  I think the trick is to go on the off-hours to appreciate the food without worrying about parking. AND, you have to be hungry when you start out :D

2015 Landco BP Reunion

January 02, 2015

After coming home from Hotel Jen where we spent the first day and evening of the New Year, I was scheduled to meet with my former officemates from Landco Pacific.  A reunion was scheduled because our two friends who lived overseas were back in Manila for a vacation.  It has been close to 15 years since we really saw each other and I was excited to meet up with everyone.

This was one of the first pictures we took.  It's a bit dark on one side but we found a way to rectify that - with high-powered phone flashlights hahaha

The night was filled with laughter as we all reminisced about the time we were together.  There was also a bit of catching up as everyone wanted to know what everyone else was up to :)  We missed the guys who weren't able to make it because they're out of town or out of the country but I hope that they get to see this so they can share in our memories of the night too.

Just check out that view!! It was a bit cold that night and I was glad I brought a shawl with me.

It's great to see friends and be simply happy at the start of the New Year.  I'm glad I had this chance. :)

Event: Michael and Tere Glinoga Wedding

July 28, 2012

One of the highlights of our year was being invited to my cousin Tere's wedding to her husband Michael.  They were married at the Santisimo Rosario Parish in UST and Dylan was the Bible Bearer.  He wasn't used to people staring at him so he walked down the aisle in slow motion with his head to the floor.  It's like he wanted to disappear :)  He was still so cute to look at though :D  He was supposed to be wearing barong tagalog but we weren't able to get his in time.  It was a good thing his tie was still in line with the theme of the wedding.

Here is Tere making her grand entrance into the Church.

Dylan being cued for walking down the aisle
Look at his apprehension hehehe
Tracy with her formal dress :)
After the wedding, we all trooped to the Hyatt Hotel in Malate.  The wedding reception was held at the Ballroom.  It was a good time to meet up with the rest of the family.  Like having your picture taken with your Dad whom you haven't seen in a long time and sharing a picture with the rest of Dad's male siblings.

We also shared the table with my sister Sharon and her family.  That's her there with husband Jowell and granddaughter Tracy.

Check out the kids' meal :)

Cousins Dana and Den
Dylan and Mama
After the reception, we left a little early, we took the time to take pictures in the lobby :)

Here's our picture at the photo booth that was a favorite hang out among the guests.  Dana really enjoyed this.  I love her smile in all the pictures :)

So, to Michael and Tere.. Congratulations!! Thank you for inviting us to share in your celebration! :D
