Celebrating the Kids' Birthdays with Sofia's Custom Cakes

2021 March

Though we do celebrate birthdays, we don't always go overboard. We just eat good food or maybe at the most, go out of town. With this pandemic, we have been on lockdown for a year and the kids are basically prisoners at home, it's imperative that we have some sort of birthday celebration just to keep their spirits up. So, here we have Dylan's Jurassic Park cake from Sofia's Custom Cakes

Dana's simple birthday celebration

16 March 2020

Happy birthday Dana!!

We didn't really have the finances to give you a proper birthday feast but thank God for your Lolo Ben and Lynne who dropped by with a few treats :)

Thank you for your understanding and we will make it up to you when circumstances are better :)  You know that!

We love you!!

2018 Calayan Adventure - Day 04 - A Birthday/Family Reunion Celebration and a Sunset Tour in Punta Magsidel

03 April 2018

Traveling to my Dad's hometown is actually pretty insane considering the distance, modes of transport and time required to reach it.  But we made the journey out of love, out of familial responsibility and of gratitude for the people we consider our own.

One of the reasons for this trip happened today - a celebration of birthdays for Uncle Angel, Auntie Biyang and my Dad...

Luna and Tala's double birthday celebration

November 23, 2013

Today,  we were at Jollibee Greenmeadows to join the double birthday celebration of Bito and Mano's kids, Luna and Tala!

Luna turned 2 and Tala turned 1!

We enjoyed ourselves very much :)

Ethan Caleb's 1st birthday

November 17, 2013

We were invited by my former officemate and friend Bobbie to her son's 1st birthday bash held at the Oasis along Aurora Boulevard.  It was a Madagscar/Safari themed party and we were all excited to attend.

Pio's 1st Birthday at Ristorante Bigoli

June 01, 2013

It's always a pleasure and a privilege to be invited to someone's birthday celebration.  This time, we were all invited to Pio's first birthday celebration at Ristorante Bigoli.  Pio is the son of my cousin Cathy and her husband Ian.

At first, we weren't sure where Ristorante Bigoli was until we reached Eastwood and we realized it used to be called Fazoli's.  I remembered we ate here before and we really loved their food especially the bread sticks.  Suffice to say, we were already drooling even before we set foot through the door hahaha

It was good to be with family and the kids had a great time as you can see.  The master of entertainment was indeed a Master since he was able to keep the kids' attention throughout his performance.  The kids participated in the games and other activities and even won some prizes :)

Happy birthday to Pio and thanks to Cathy and Ian for a fun birthday celebration! :)

Kids: Dylan's 7th birthday

March 18, 2013

The weeks after the photo shoot were pretty hectic with Dana's and Dylan's exams, Patrick's trip to Batanes (I was envious) and Dylan's rehearsals for their Moving Up Ceremony/Graduation.  Dylan's 7th birthday was buried under all these activities but wasn't forgotten.  We decided that we'll celebrate his birthday at the same time with his Graduation which were only days apart.

It was very nice of Den to come and visit on Dylan's birthday and brought with her such a great assortment of J. Co donuts for Dylan.  We hadn't tried any of the donuts from J. Co as we were Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme fans so it was a learning experience as well.  :)

Dylan didn't know which one to eat first hahaha Thank you Den!

Kids: Tracy's 1st and Dana's 9th birthdays

March 03, 2013

As I mentioned in my previous post, we were all preparing for a double celebration.  Since Tracy's and Dana's birthdays were close together, we decided to celebrate them together.  It would have been funny if we had included Dylan too since his birthday is also on March but it was 2 weeks later. :)

Anyway, the preparations included buying cake.  We tapped Dana's Ninong Phil to create the cakes for both girls.  Tracy's was simple because she's still small so we opted to have a Minnie Mouse-inspired chocolate cake.  At that time, Dana was into Adventure Time so her cake was of Finn and Jake but it was Red Velvet.  We tasted these two flavors when we went to Phil's for a birthday too and he made the cakes and they were delicious! :) We ordered them ahead of time then came in the morning to pick them up.

Next, we had to order the food for the guests.  We considered cooking the food ourselves but decided against it because it would take too much time and there were many people coming.  We didn't have the equipment basically hahaha So, after looking around and computing and comparing prices and taste, we finally decided to order from Amber.  It's our tried and tested food provider for big celebrations.  We only had to order it a day before and pick it up from their Morato branch the day after.  The barbecue was the only thing that wasn't from Amber's.  We ordered it from our local carinderia :) They make delicious barbecue! :) Of course, we also bought the necessary paper plates, cups, cutlery, napkins and drinks.

Pork Barbecue
Spaghetti
Pancit Malabon

Lumpia Shanghai

Basically, that's all that we prepared for.  We didn't plan for any activities because we were sure that conversation among the guests will be non-stop anyway.  The guests were mostly Tracy's godparents and they were composed of Den's friends.  We were Dana's guests hahaha We did prepare a "scrapbook" for guests to write their birthday letter to Tracy and we planned to include a picture of them with Tracy.  That scrapbook is with Den now.  She can add to it for every birthday Tracy celebrates :)

Here are the guests! Good food and good company! It was a fun day!  Happy birthday Tracy and Dana!

Kids: Kimmy's birthday at Kidzville, The Podium

November 17, 2012

Today is Kimmy's 1st birthday and we've been invited to attend.  Den and Tracy spent the night here so that they can attend the party with us.  The kids were already excited because they know they can play in the playroom for an indefinite period of time :)  Den and Tracy spent the night and apparently Dylan wanted to camp out with them.  Look at that smile while crawling all over Dylan :D

So, at the party, the kids participated in the games although, at one point, Dylan became overwhelmed and simply returned to his seat :)

We had fun because there was a lot of food choices.  Ruthie really did a great job with the planning and she knew what the kids and adults would want to eat.  There was a corn dog stand, a french fries stand, a taco stand and there was a separate group of main course for adults and kids.

After the kids had their fun, eating and playing, we went to SM Megamall, but first, some picture taking opps at Cinderella's carriage just outside of the Podium.

We had dinner at Amici because Den was craving some good food.  I guess she was deprived LOL  The kids shared a serving of spaghetti, Patrick had the lasagna, I forgot what Den ordered, and I had a spicy pasta (which was a first for me!).  It was our first time to eat here and there were a lot of people but we were able to find seats immediately.  The wait was considerable but the food was delicious!

Here are the kids with stuff they got from their loot bags.  Dylan loved the Lego glasses and the necklaces :)

Celebrating Sharon's birthday

In our family, we hardly celebrate birthdays but we never forget to greet our family members on the day itself.  I guess it comes from having limited funds most of the time so the funds get earmarked for something else.  But sometimes, it happens when there's a windfall and we do get a chance to go out and have lunch somewhere.

Such is the case when my sister Sharon had her birthday this year.  When I greeted her on Facebook, I jokingly asked her if we can eat at Dampa along Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard in Pasay.  It was a place we've always wanted to go to but never found the opportunity to do so.  Now, Sharon gives me a call and tells me that we were indeed going ahead with the plan.  Imagine my joy! hahaha Now, for those who aren't aware what Dampa is, it's actually a wet market where you can buy fresh seafoods at really low prices.  After you buy them, there are restaurants just a few steps away where you can go to and have them cook your food for you in whatever way you want.  For instance, if you buy prawns and go to the resto, you can have them cook part of it for sinigang and another part for chili garlic prawns.  There's a cooking charge for every dish that you have them cook.

We were running a little late because Bourne Legacy was shooting and they closed down some roads which led to all traffic right in front of our place.   As you can see, A.H. Lacson literally looked like a parking lot  for cargo trailers and trucks.  Normally, you wouldn't see trucks on the service road.  They usually took the flyover.  This is how bad it got.

It took us so long to even get out of the garage because the trucks wouldn't give way.  After a harrowing exit from the garage gate, we were finally on our way.

Sharon and the family were ahead of us at the resto so they were already able to buy from the market and have it cooked while waiting for us.  We stayed at the Sharmila restaurant.  They ordered chili garlic prawns, adobong pusit, crabs, sweet and sour lapu-lapu, baked clams and lots of rice and Coke :)  Can you say I'm in heaven hahaha

Even with all the food in front of me, I only actually ate the prawns and had a little taste of the steamed lapu-lapu :) I really love prawns so I literally feasted on them hahahaha

Dana loved the adobong pusit and Patrick loved the mussels :)  Den also ate a lot of the prawns hahaha
