If we're talking about comfort food, Japanese ramen is what we want :) So, once we discovered Ramen Kuroda, we always want to eat there :) After our day at the National Planetarium, we were starving and in need of Ramen Kuroda's sustenance :)
I started this blog as an alternative to talking to my mom who died so suddenly. It has evolved since then as an online journal for my family's adventures and misadventures - our travels, our dining out, our entertainment and so much more! Feel free to leave your reactions :)

A taste of Ramen Kuroda at Mezza Residences
07 October 2016
If you follow my blog, you'll know that our family loves Japanese ramen. We're always on the lookout for affordable yet delicious Japanese ramen throughout the metro. We consider it good fortune to find some that are within the vicinity of our residence too. That is why we were ecstatic when we found Ramen Kuroda at the Mezza Residences in Sta. Mesa, Quezon City.

Ramen for 100 pesos or less at Erra's Vest Ramen in Malate, Manila
25 June 2016
Today, we received a treat from my cousin Joyce who asked me to take the kids somewhere nice for the day. Patrick and I decided to go to Erra's Vest Ramen in Malate, Manila as they're known for authentic Japanese ramen for P100 or less. Since we all love ramen and the price is a great come-on, we all trooped to Erra's Vest Ramen to explore their offerings.

Another tasty trip to Tamagoya
January 14, 2015
Some of you may know that Pope Francis is due to visit the Philippines from January 15-19. As part of his itinerary, he will be visiting the University of Santo Tomas. The reason why I'm mentioning it is because I learned today that we had to move Stanley, who is currently parked on the sidewalk because we have a test unit parked in the garage, to a different parking area for security reasons. The Pope and his entourage will be passing by the street in front of our house and no car should be on the sidewalk when they pass on their way to UST. So, we had to find Stanley a new parking slot for the duration of the holiday.
We then ended up bringing Stanley to Stevie's house in Marikina so he can be safely parked in their garage and we didn't have to pay for parking fees. I think overnight parking fees near our area cost P300 for overnight parking. Anyway, that's why Patrick and I ended up visiting Tamagoya once again. We first visited Tamagoya last year. We liked the food so much that, because now we were in the vicinity again, we couldn't pass up the chance. This time, I was able to take pictures too hahaha
I ordered the Miso Ramen and Patrick ordered the Tamagoya ramen. My miso ramen came with togue (monggo sprouts), a bit of nori, a slice of pork, an egg and corn kernels. It was a good combination of salty (miso) and sweet (corn). It was delish! :) Patrick's Tamagoya ramen included bamboo shoots, pork and nori. We shared an order of pan-fried gyoza too.
The last time we ate at Tamagoya, we were offered Choux Creme for dessert. It was what we know as Creme Puff, a light crusty pastry with a creme filling. I'm a sucker for creme puffs and that time we ordered the regular one and one with a strawberry filling. This time, Patrick and I ordered the regular Choux Creme each. It's the perfect way to clear your taste buds of the oil of the ramen :) It was really good and there was a lot of filling! Sometimes, creme puffs can be disappointing because it's more bread than filling. Glad it wasn't the case here :D
Before leaving, naturally, I had to visit the restroom and I took a photo of it too hahaha It's quite small but clean. This was the downstairs bathroom. There's also another one on the 2nd floor. There was good running water, tissue, soap and a trash can.
So, here's our receipt.
If you want to visit Tamagoya Noodle House, they are open Tuesdays - Sundays (Monday-Closed) 11AM - 2PM and 5PM - 9PM only. They are often full so expect a bit of waiting time. Here is their address: 2 VV Soliven Avenue, Barangay Mayamot, Antipolo City. Phone 861-86-31.

What's interesting about Tamagoya is that they also don't accept tips because as they say, "It is their pleasure serving you".
Oishinbo in Little Tokyo
After having lunch at Chicken Charlie (in the previous post) we headed home, our tummies fully satiated :) However, as most of you know, my tummy is easily hungry and on the way, I was craving some Japanese food :)
Well, Patrick suggested that we try and visit Little Tokyo in Makati. I didn't even know there was such a place ! hahaha It's right across Makati Cinema Square along Pasong Tamo corner Amorsolo Street. You'll know you're in the right place if you see a strip of Japanese restaurants like Shinjuku Ramen along Pasong Tamo. The Japanese ark and the man-made bridge is a dead give-away that you've stumbled onto it.
Go under the ark (there's also another arc fronting Amorsolo Street) and head straight into the little square that's truly Japanese in ambience. It's filled with authentic Japanese restaurants like Kagura which specializes in yakiniku (grilled strips of beef) and Heijyoen which specializes in Okonomiyake (Japanese pancake meals).
You may choose to eat inside the restaurants or in the square itself. The restaurant we chose was Oishinbo because they had a variety of sushi and ramen dishes :) We ordered the usual and the unusual :)
Usual means our typical order of ramen and beef curry so we can at least have a frame of reference to compare to. I ordered their chashu ramen. Patrick wanted to try their Sake so as per our server's recommendation (which she said was their popular sake), we chose this one but for the life of me, I can't remember the name LOL too bad! it was good! :D
We also ordered the usual California Maki which was well-presented and indeed tasted so delicious! :D Dylan ate practically half of this! LOL
Since the kids can't drink sake, they had Iced Teas :) We also had an order of gyozas but I guess we demolished it before we even took a picture hahaha
The pricing can demolish your budget pretty easily but if you really want the taste and the flavor of Japanese food (you'll know it's good if the Japanese eat with you as well!) then it's a good place to eat :)
Next time, we'll try the other restaurants, pockets-willing ahahaha
