10 Reasons Why the Big Bad Wolf Books Event at the World Trade Center is Bad for Me (and my wallet)!

17 February 2018

What a fitting picture! I found that book at the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale at the World Trade Center.  You'll find over 2 Million books with 60% to 80% discounts.  The event runs from February 16 to 25 and they're open 24 hours!  Admission is FREE!

We went there around 8PM and we left at 2AM and we didn't even get to see all the books!! Check out our experience and we hope that you get to visit too :)

1.  Runs for a Week, Open 24 hours, Admission is Free!

This is the first time we've experienced a Book Sale of this magnitude. This event, with over 2 million books that runs for a week, open 24 hours and you don't have to pay to get in, is a Book Lover's dream!

We timed our arrival at the Big Bad Wolf Books sale after dinner so that we'd have plenty of energy to roam around while browsing the vast array of books.  There was ample parking across the World Trade Center (Wensha Spa parking) and we just crossed the street to get to the venue.

There were separate entrances for male and female and there's absolutely a "No Food and No Drinks" policy enforced.   If you have some in your bag, you'll be asked to leave it there before you enter so if you don't want that, maybe you should leave them in your car or simply don't bring any.  There are two dining areas if you do get hungry or thirsty.

2.  Carry All You Can for P200

Near the entrance, there's this section where you can "Carry all you can for P200".  They're mostly local magazines though.  I've seen men with bulging muscles carry as much as the whole length of their arms! :)  But they're buying for their girls/women :)

3.  Over 2 Million books at 60% to 80% discounted prices

So, into the venue we go!

As soon as you enter, grab a basket with wheels or a shopping cart.  Trust me, you'll fill those up in no time and it's better to drag a basket or push a cart across the venue.  You can clearly see some of the sections from this photo.  :)

This was the first thing I saw when I entered the venue.  :)

There are plenty of these kinds of books and activity sets throughout the venue.

This is the view from the right side as soon as you enter...

4.  A variety of sections and book genres to satisfy every reader's craving.  Some new books that are sealed (still covered with plastic) have a "sample" book that is open so you can check out the contents without having to open the other sealed books.

What I found interesting is the  awesomeness of the variety of the books available.  These were under the "Reference" section.  We weren't too interested in Business and Economics so we skipped that hehe

A book about Pizza in a Pizza Box
We headed straight for the "Young Adult" section but we became too engrossed with all the titles I didn't even get a chance to get a photo.  Plus, this is where the bulk of the customers were and it can by difficult manipulating your basket and browsing.  You have to be mindful that your cart may be bothersome to others so just tuck it away :)

The "Children's Section" is probably the biggest section of them all.  I think it occupies a quarter of the area of the venue.  There are activity books, sound books, board books, puzzles and games, boxed activity sets, and readers books (stories and novels for kids).

There is also a graphic novels and comics section. It was mostly Patrick and Dylan who browsed through it though :)

I was amazed at the Music and Movies section.  Lots of books with CDs/DVDs included with them.  There were books about Queen, the Beatles, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Prince, Elvis Presley and so much more your head will spin :)

There were also a lot of books on Baking and Cookery, Graphic Design, Architecture and Home and Garden.

5.  The Customer Storage Area

This is a winner!  If your cart becomes full and you need more space, they have a Customer Storage area specifically for that purpose.  You can deposit unpaid for books and then come back for them when it's time to pay.  We had to do this when we became hungry and had to leave the venue to eat outside.  You can store your books for up to 24 hours.  :)  This is also handy when you were able to choose books and went over budget but didn't want to just leave them for someone else to snatch them up :)

You simply fill up a form at the counter, they'll stick a copy of it to the crate and then give another copy to you for when you claim your books.  Then you simply put all your books in the said crate and then they'll cart it over to their storage area.

When claiming, you have to bring a cart or a basket with you to place your books in.  You have to present your claim stub so that they can get your crate.  Once you get your crate, simply transfer your books to your own basket and that's it! More shopping to do! :D

6.  The Dining Area

This was at one of the dining areas.  When we arrived, there were a lot of choices but mostly snacks.  By the time we got hungry and stepped out to eat, they were only selling empanadas and drinks and they mentioned that they will only be there until 12 midnight, but maybe they can extend if there were more customers.

Even at 1AM they still had energy for Round 2!  Mostly we spent this time at the Children's section because it was huge.  You really will feel overwhelmed by the number of books!

More books at the Puzzles and Games section.  Patrick had dazed eyes from browsing all the books at the Transportation section :)

Unfortunately, someone probably stole the keychain that was included in this book.  It wasn't a sample book but it was open.  Poor book :(

7.  The Unwanted Books section

As hard as it is for everyone to let go of books they've chosen, it all boils down to "Can you really afford everything that's in your basket/cart?"  The venue has an "Unwanted Books" section next to the Storage area and in some designated areas around the venue where you can place books that you no longer want to purchase.

Before we went to the Cashier area, we stopped by this section to calculate how much our books were worth.  Ugh, that was painful.. We've gone overbudget and we had to leave behind some books.  :(

8.  The Payment Area

One of my fears in events like this is that payment lines will be long and tiring.  When we entered the area, it seemed daunting at first since there was a huge crowd but it wasn't that bad.  There are plenty of counters with efficient cashiers and baggers.  They accept cash and credit card too.  They also have lines for seniors, pregnant women, and PWD's.

9.  Porter/Baggage Service

For customers who have heavy bags full of books, you can only bring your shopping carts up to the end of the Payment area.  For help with your bags, there is a porter service available to help.  You just have to inform the crew.

10.  Waiting Area outside the Venue

There is also a waiting area outside the venue.  This is handy for those who have drivers or who have to wait for someone to come and get them without having to carry the heavy bags all the way to their cars.

========

Finally, here's our book haul for the night!  There was still so much that we wanted but unfortunately our wallets have been emptied LOL  Still, it was an experience to remember and these books will tell that story :D #LookWhatIBought #BigBadWolfBooksPH

Thanks Big Bad Wolf Books!! :D
