Dylan helps with his class' room renovations

27 August 2017

What I've learned now that Dylan is in public school is that if you want something done for the class, you have to do it yourself.  Today, my co-parents and I banded together to put up bulletin boards and Teacher's whiteboard and constructed stacking shelves for Dylan's class.  Dylan was very excited to be part of a project like this and it taught him the value of working hard and appreciating the end result.

This was actually the second week that parents have worked together to improve the classroom.  The first time, I got sick on the day itself and wasn't able to participate.  What they did that day was paint the room.  Initially, there wasn't even a divider between the room when school started.

Teacher Ressie was the one who forked out the money for the divider as you can see behind Dylan.  We then contributed to buy materials to paint the room next and that was the project that I missed.

Today, I was glad for the opportunity to contribute this time.  Dylan came with me because he wanted to contribute too.  Our agenda included putting up the bulletin boards and the whiteboard that our friendly carpenter put together.

We then painted the wood to  give it a bit of color.  Dylan actually helped paint the bottom parts of the bulletin boards.

We took a break for lunch.  Teacher Ressie was kind enough to provide us with KFC meals :)

Dylan occupied himself with the sensory toys as we were waiting for our turn to put together the stacking shelves.

It was close to 7PM when we were done.  We actually went over time that led to the school guard berating us for taking so long :)  But in the end, it was all worth it, as you can see.  We may be tired but we're pretty happy with the results :)

Until the next project! :) Thanks guys! :)
