A great big Thank You to Mommy Myles, Daddy Jovy and Sir Ramil of Books for a Cause for granting us the privilege of receiving much-needed educational materials and furnishings from your former preschool. We are in awe of your generosity and your kindness will go a long way because all this will help so many generations of Special Education/Autism students. Thank You !
We have Sir Ramil of Books for a Cause to thank for the opportunity. He went to visit Mama Myles and Daddy Jovy when they offered to donate some books to Books for a Cause. Upon getting there, he learned that most of the stuff in their preschool is up for grabs to anyone who needs it. He posted it on Facebook and I immediately jumped at the chance because this would mean a great improvement for the classroom without us having to spend so much for it. There were attempts at picking the stuff up earlier but the schedule was not ideal for the parties concerned.
On Friday morning, we got the message that it's possible for us to visit and pick up the stuff that we need, so we scrambled to find a truck that would be able to carry the stuff. It was a stressful time because we booked a truck at 4PM, they cancelled at 7PM. We booked another truck after, then they cancelled again! We thought that we could go with Plan B - one of our co-parents offered the use of their Tamaraw FX. But at 7AM the next day, the vehicle wouldn't start. We really had to find a truck.
It was fortuitous that I saw my sister online and asked her for leads on a truck. Turned out she had connections and we were able to secure one, although, of course, it had a hefty fee. But, we had a truck and all systems go! :)
Dylan, Patrick and I met our other co-parents at the school. Daddies Armand and Romero brought tools for dismantling cabinets and shelves and they were a big help.
We arrived at the preschool around 10AM. Unfortunately, the photos I took at the school were all dark and unfocused because there were no lights and the flash doesn't cut it.
Anyway, there were so much to sift from - cabinets, shelves, cubbyholes, tables, chairs, blackboards and educational materials. We knew we couldn't bring all of them so we had to decide which ones we needed the most and were in good condition that we didn't need to repair them too much. We still ended up filling the truck and that's a lot of stuff!
We got to the school and unloaded the stuff. We first had to clean them so we wouldn't track dust in the room. As you can see, we really had a huge haul :)
As soon as we cleaned them, we brought them up to the room. The room seemed smaller when everything was put inside. We were able to get a 5x4 cubbyhole (which was on the list of our projects), 2 sets of shelves, a cabinet for Teacher (although it was missing a door, it was okay), 2 small blackboards and 1 huge one. We also got plenty of tables and chairs, which we only needed to paint to make them look new :)
There were boxes of educational materials for reading, math, phonics which Teacher Ressie can use. This is such a treasure because Teacher Ressie doesn't have to create her own. She already has these!
Mommy Myles also gave this office chair for Teacher Ressie :)
We originally got this bench thinking we could re-purpose it but it's actually pretty useful as it is.
The tables are a hit. Teacher Ressie is able to rearrange the tables depending on the activity. She has better control of the kids and the kids themselves appreciate the space that they can work with.
Oh and at the last minute, they also gave us a Wall Fan and boxes of curtains! :) We are so blessed to have met such kind people. :)
We're now planning our next project - painting the tables, chairs, cabinets and shelves. :)
Nice job i regularly view your blog and find it quite interesting.. keep up the good work and all the best.
