A Happy Mother's Day at Ponte Rialto Ristorante Italiano

14 May 2017

Today is Mother's Day and as a treat, we all went to Ponte Rialto Ristorante Italiano to savor their authentic Italian dishes.  It's been quite a while since we were last there and Patrick thought that since it was Mother's Day today, I deserve a treat and so here we are!

Aside from the fact that we love Italian food, we also wanted to come back to Ponte Rialto (at the Venice Grand Canal Mall in McKinley Hill) because we saw on FB that they had a promo for Mother's Day - A serving of Pistachio Cannoli for Moms!  We couldn't resist!

Anyway, we arrived around 430PM so the lunch crowd had moved on (meaning there was no longer a waiting queue) although the restaurant was still quite full.  We were able to be seated right away although we had to take a long time to order because we were perusing their ever-growing list of fine Italian dishes. Thanks to our cheery and helpful server Margaret, we finally decided on "Fungi Ripieni" for our appetizer.  These are deep fried button mushrooms stuffed with spinach, asparagus and mozzarella, with saffron sauce.

Dylan loved dipping the bread in the olive oil, balsamic vinegar and cheese dip
.

Though at first he was interested in having pasta, he finally decided to have pizza so we ordered the Quattro Formaggi - tomato sauce with four Italian cheeses.  I think he finished half of the pizza! :) It was THAT good!

Dana went for the tried and true "Tagliatelle alla Bolognese".  This dish is quite tricky.  You think it's just a small amount but it's actually good for two! It's very filling and heavy.  Dana wasn't able to finish it and had to wrap the rest to go :)

Patrick also went for his favorite - Lasagna al Forno (Layers of freshly made leaves of pasta, tomato sauce with ground beef and cheese).

For me, I gave in to temptation and ordered a new item on the menu - the "Aragosta alla Griglia con Risotto Zafferano" (Grilled Lobster Tail with Saffron Risotto).  If it sounds sinful, it truly is.  I can't even begin to describe the taste.  It's a heaping, succulent mass of lobster, layered on grilled vegetables with a very rich and flavorful saffron risotto to complement it.  The lobster by itself is already mouth-watering and I couldn't help but close my eyes to savor the experience.  But when you add the saffron risotto to it, the flavors are just taken to a whole other level.  It's like, you thought it was already good before, now it's even better!  I may not be explaining the taste very well but it's really delicious.  :)  All the essentials for a great culinary masterpiece are present:  Sight, Smell, Taste, you can't help but sighing after every bite :)  It really is worth it! :)

We took our time eating because we really had to savor the taste. Plus, each serving is hefty so we needed to give our stomachs time to digest.  You may think that a Grilled lobster is light fare, no it's not.. It's deceptively heavy ;) And to think that Dana and Dylan even got extra bites from that lobster and I was still full from it!

For dessert, we ordered the Classic Cannoli and the Cannoli Ciocolato (Chocolate).  Cannoli is an Italian special pastry with a rich, creamy filling and it's a recent addition to the dessert menu.  Since it's Mother's Day, we also got the Pistachio Cannoli compliments of Ponte Rialto.  So, we ended up being able to taste all three variants :)  What a day!

Pistachio Cannoli
Classic Cannoli
Chocolate Cannoli

Coffee is a great partner to the cannolis.

Cafe Latte
Capuccino
Man, we were so full we couldn't move after all that good food! haha But of course, we had to because we had to make way for the incoming dinner patrons :)  Another shout out to Restaurant Manager Albert who made us feel so welcome and taken care of. :)

So, in order to burn all the calories from our feast, we walked around Venice Grand Canal Mall.

That sky was worth a picture because it was just awesome!  It's like a Blue Screen! haha

One of the main attractions is this man-made Venice Grand Canal.  They also offer gondola rides :)
