Day 1 of ToyCon 2016: Part 1 #ToyConPH2016

10 June 2016

Today, Patrick and I attended the ToyCon 2016 + Poplife Fan Xperience event at Halls 1-4 of the SMX at the SM Mall of Asia.  The Philippine Toys, Hobbies and Collectibles Convention, shortened to "ToyCon", is now on its 15th year and has partnered with PopLife (makers of the popular Funko Pop figures) and Salt Lake Comic Con producers Dan Farr and Bryan Brandenburg to add another dimension to the event with the highly anticipated "Poplife FanXperience".

The event showcases 3 days (June 10-12) of toys, cosplays, exhibits, performances, panels, photo ops and autograph signings.

For today, we saw the Stan Lee Excelsior Exhibit, attended the Press Con and interview panels with celebrities Kristian Nairn (Hodor of Game of Thrones), Dean Cain (Superman of Lois and Clark) and Daniel Logan (Young Boba Fett of Star Wars) and browsed the many booths and displays.

Patrick and I knew that this year's Toy Con will be huge and he was surprised at the long lines outside the SMX on our way to the entrance.  We had media passes so we could immediately go in, provided we sign in at the Registration counter (which we did!).  The people here had regular day passes so they had a different entrance.  The people in the 2nd picture held VIP (P3,000 worth) and Legendary (P10,000 worth) passes so they entered the SMX at the Main gates.  For Day 1, those with Media, VIP and Legendary passes got to go in at 11AM, an hour earlier than the regular opening.  For Days 2 & 3, gates open at 10AM for everyone.

These were on display inside the SMX but outside of the Halls.  At this point, Patrick and I were cringing because we saw a kid crossing the barrier and touching the exhibits while his companions just let him.  We tried to tell them off but they didn't listen.

When we got inside, we were awestruck! There's just so much to see.  Just look at the booths we took pictures of.  I'm sorry we couldn't get everyone.  This was the first exhibit we saw as we came through the doors.

There were many collectibles on display and for sale:

The Kotobukiya Exhibit
Part of the Kotobukiya Exhibit

And, of course, the TOYS! :)  There were a lot of Funko Pop figures, T-shirts, Star Wars and Comics.  There were stalls with knick-knacks, loose toys and anime-related items.  Even Heneral Luna has a store! haha

We also got a chance to visit the Geekerie Booth (Booth #18) run by our friend Aids :)  They have Star Wars, Doctor Who and Sherlock merchandise :)  The Jon Snow shirt behind them is on sale :)

Patrick liked this shop selling Movie Merchandise :)

This booth specializes in Custom Masks, like Kamen Rider :)

This is the stall where I bought Dana's Lord Death hair accessory for P80 :)

Here, you can create your custom T-shirts at the Transfer It stall.  Empire Clothing next to it has their own set of fandom shirts :)

Iflix also has a spot on the floor and this is where I got my picture taken with "Arrow" and "Jay Garrick - The Flash"

The Suicide Squad also had their own exhibit.  They had a huge space but Patrick wanted a picture only with Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn :)

My next post will be a continuation of Day 1, particularly the Stan Lee Excelsior exhibit and the Celebrity panels, since we took a lot of pictures :)
