COVID-19 Chronicles: Kids' Online Classes Begin Again

 2021 August and September

It's weird but it's the start of the classes again. Weird because we're used to classes starting in June, but because of the pandemic, the kids started their online classes in August (Dana) and September (Dylan).

By now, we've had one year of this "new" mode of teaching and the kids have grown accustomed to it.

For these two, they actually prefer it! :)

For Dana, this is an important step in her education. She'll be starting her Senior High School at a new school in August. It's rather sad, well for me at least, that she won't have the same experience interacting and making new memories with her new classmates. After all, isn't High School the best time we've all had? At least, I did. But we'll see. Times have changed and things may be fun for them even with classes being online.

Dylan had his first day of classes on September 13. He used the tablet that he got the year before. But unfortunately, the data load that was free last year was no longer offered. Dylan is lucky that we have Internet service at home.

Parents and teachers started communicating through GC's on Messenger and we got notified that school supplies for the kids were being distributed at the school. So we lined up and got our kids' supplies from the City of Manila. They consisted of Hygiene kits, modules that the kids needed, notebooks, pad paper, and a school bag. Thank you, City of Manila.

So, this is what it's like at home. We each have our own areas for studying. Dylan occupies the PC because the screen is bigger and it has better sound compared to the tablet. Dana uses her laptop for her classes. Meanwhile, I just observe them and am the go-to guy for anything that they need.

After online classes, the kids are busy doing their homework. There's actually a lot they have to do and most of it has been actually outlined in Activity Lists that teachers have prepared for them weekly.

The best reward for their hard work is having beef kebabs, pita bread, and hummus for dinner. :D
