Driving Directions from Baguio to Manila via Naguilian Road, including 2 new roads (2018)

28 November 2018

Our 3 Day trip in Baguio has come to an end and it's time to get back to Manila.  We came up using Marcos Highway but on our way back, we were advised (by Waze) to take the Naguilian Road.

We decided to try it since we didn't have to go back to the City Center and we thought it's best to try all roads leading to and from Baguio just for the experience.

It's pretty much a straightforward drive but it took us almost 4 hours just to reach the TPLEX Toll Gate in Pozorrubio.

The reason why Waze probably recommended the Naguilian Road or the Bauang-Baguio Road was because we were coming from Barangay Irisan and so Naguilian Road was the closest Main road out of Baguio.

It wasn't so bad since it was a pretty scenic drive and there were hardly any trucks on the road, compared to Marcos Highway.   Locations and names of towns were also well displayed along the road so we were pretty sure where we were all the time.

In 30-40 minutes, we arrived in La Union with this sign as a marker.

About an hour's drive from Baguio, you'll reach this Junction in Bauang, La Union.  This is actually the only major turning point on your drive.  You need to turn LEFT here.

Driving along the Bauang-Baguio Road (Naguilian Road) is like being on the Pacific Coast Highway hehe There are beach resorts on your right and along the way, you'll pass many grapes farms (yeah, I was surprised).  But the sunset is a sight to behold.

At this point, we had passed two bridges - one for the Balili River and the other for the Aringay River.  Waze indicated that we use Option 3.  I found out as I'm plotting our course for this blog that there were two other ways we could have used to reach the Pugo-Rosario Road Junction that we passed on our way up.

Option 1 was the newly opened Aringay-Tubao Alternative Road that connects to the other end of the Aspiras-Palispis Highway leading to Baguio.

Option 2 meant turning LEFT from the Bauang-Baguio Road at the Agoo Junction and heading straight towards the Aspiras-Palispis Highway or the Agoo-Baguio Road.

Option 3 meant traveling via the MacArthur Highway, passing Agoo, Santo Tomas and Rosario towns.  This was where we encountered the most traffic because of trucks and the density of the towns.

The end of this drive leads to the Junction where Marcos Highway and Kennon Road diverge.  Then, it's a straight drive along MacArthur Highway, passing through Sison to reach the TPLEX toll gate at Pozorrubio, the last entry/exit gate of the TPLEX.  It took us roughly 4 hours to get here.

We paid our P270 Toll Fee and got on the TPLEX, heading to NLEX-SCTEX and then Manila.

After about 2 hours, we reached the the Bocaue Toll Gate, we paid P340 for the use of the NLEX-SCTEX and then we were finally headed to Manila.  No more toll gates after that.

Well, there you have it.  Your three options of getting out of Baguio and heading to Manila.  It's pretty much your choice whether you take Balintawak or Mindanao Avenue to get back into the city.

I hope this helps.  :)  Thanks!
