What a way to greet the first of December (the official start of the Christmas season) by donating our time to Dylan's classrooms continuing renovations. Today, we focused on fixing the tables and chairs and then painting them. We also installed a "gate/fence" at the door so that the door can be left open but the kids can't easily run outside. It was tiring but very fulfilling! Thanks to everyone who helped!
Since today was a "No Class" day for us, we scheduled a renovation activity so that by the time the kids come to school next week, the paint vapors will have dissipated and the kids won't be assailed by the smell.
One of our goals for today was to construct this gate/fence at the door. We were told that Teacher Ressie should leave the door open while having her class. The thing is, the kids are usually tempted to run outside whenever they feel like it, especially when the door's open which leaves Teacher Ressie running after them more than once. That is why we keep the door closed. However, now we have a gate, which hopefully, will keep the kids from running outside. It was Daddy Richie who built it, so thanks to him! :) The paint was supposed to be alternating yellow and blue, but they keep getting mixed up and we end up with green paint hahaha So, we just decided to stick to blue.
Dylan and Kadmiel were here with us. We kept them busy by letting them draw :) They were pretty content for about an hour or two :)
While they were drawing, the daddies were busy with strengthening the top of the tables by applying another layer of wood to them. The kids were busy removing the stray wood from the tables and we were worried that they would get splinters or get cut from it. Hence, this solution.
Don't the tables look great now?
Meanwhile, the kiddos got tired of drawing and were now busy with their blocks. They were content for an hour or two again haha
Once the tables were all done, we started painting them. Daddy Richie was also finished with the gate/fence at this point and was starting to assemble it on the door.
Now, Daddy Richie was replacing the wood from the seats of the chairs. Some of them were broken and were in the same state as the tables. We added braces to the bottom of the seat just in case the kids stepped on them. One of the chairs got a hole in the seat which is why we're doing this too :)
After about 6 hours of work, here are the finished tables and chairs!! :) There were 11 chairs and 7 tables.
That was really satisfying work :) Oh we took a break for lunch courtesy of Mommy Hati and Mommy Carmela :) Unfortunately, we didn't get a picture with them. So here we are at the end of our day :) Thanks everyone!! :)
