It's another Sunday and we all went back to BGC in Taguig for another round of Free Bike Lessons courtesy of the National Bicycle Organization. This time, we arrived earlier than our first trip and we found that more people have become aware of the Free Bike Rides and Lessons since there were now more people riding their bikes. Let's see how the kids did this time :)
It was quite the perfect weather for biking, it was cloudy and a bit windy :) Since we had breakfast earlier on, the kids were raring to go. Dylan initially was given a complete bike - I mean a bike with pedals :) but since he had to master balancing first, they changed his bike to this one, without pedals. It's to let him get used to "cruising" and controlling the bike. It actually worked because he pedaled with his feet, then let the bike cruise (with his feet off the ground). It was good exercise! :D
Dana, this time, was able to ride the bike correctly! Yehay! She said that she had a better time today because of Kuya Francis, one of the volunteer instructors. He was instructing her in English so she was able to better understand what she needed to do. He also taught her a different technique with taking off which she found better suited to her style.
A thought did occur to me while the kids were trying to ride their bikes. As they're a new generation, their minds were easily adaptive to technology BUT they were having difficulty with mechanical methods, like bike riding. I remember, when I first learned how to bike, it was all very instinctive. Like, I knew what to do when I sat on that seat. I learned really quickly without having anyone to teach me.
I also noticed that the younger ones were easily frustrated when they couldn't get the hang of it as fast as they wanted. It's like they couldn't get why they couldn't get it! :) Instant gratification, it doesn't work that way here :)
After about a couple of hours riding, Dylan was tired and he wanted to rest for a while :) So, we gave him water. Oh and during his training, he fell down. The guys from the National Bicycle Organization tended to his scratches. So Thank You :) He went biking again immediately after :)
We also learned that they'll give you a certificate if you complete 4 laps around the "track" without stopping. They asked Dana to do that since they noticed that she could continuously ride her bike. But, she needs more practice with the turning :)
Maybe our next trip, we can ride together as a family :) Dylan has to up his game :) That's what's motivating Dana too :)
