Review: L Square Hotel in Tarlac City

04 November 2018

The L Square Hotel in Tarlac was our home for 3 days and 2 nights, from November 02 to November 04 due to a death in the family that brought us back to this city.

We had a pleasant enough stay and this post will highlight what we loved about the place and will also include some bits of it that could be improved.

L Square Hotel is located at KM 120, MacArthur Highway, Barangay San Rafael, Tarlac City.

As is protocol, we checked in at 2PM.  We lounged in the lobby while Patrick dealt with the business of checking in.  We booked at L Square Hotel because Patrick's brother and his family had also booked their room here so we figured it's better to just stay at the same hotel together.

We were waiting for our room to be ready so we just spent the time taking pictures.

We were then told that our room will be upgraded from a Superior Quad to a Junior Suite (room 118).  If I remember correctly, the toilet facilities in our original room were faulty or broken.  Later, when we met up with Patrick's brother, he mentioned that they too were moved to a different room for the same reason.  It was located on the ground floor, at the very corner.  Considering the location, we were away from most of the noise.

Anyway, we were just glad to still have a room and an upgraded one at that.  The kids were so happy to have a bathtub in the bathroom :)  My only problem with the bathroom was that there wasn't a bidet near the toilet ;) but otherwise the bath was more than spacious enough :)  During our first night though, the drain in the shower area was blocked and I had to call housekeeping for them to fix it.  It was tended to fast enough so that was cool.  It didn't give us any problems later on.  I forgot to take a picture of the vanity area across the lavatory.  I just felt weirded out because every time I had to take a leak, I found myself reflected in the mirror hehehe

There was a complete set of complimentary toiletries - 1 small tube of shampoo with conditioner, 2 small bars of soap, and 2 toothbrush kits.  There was also a hair dryer, and the closet outside had a bathrobe, slippers and hangers.

The rest of the room had a small nook near the ref with complimentary coffee and water.

We had a double bed and a single bed, which was a tight fit but still manageable.  Our original booked room had 2 double beds.

Across the beds is a Flat Screen TV but with minimal channels and sometimes glitchy reception.  There was supposed to be free WIFI in all rooms but since we're way "out", WIFI was mostly out of range which irritated Patrick because he needed it for his work.  When he reported it, he was told to look for a router in the room behind the TV so he could reset it which only infuriated him even more because there wasn't any router in the room!  There was even a staff member who came in to look for it but he couldn't find it either because there wasn't one!  In the end, Patrick was able to connect but the signal wasn't strong.

There was a small balcony/veranda outside the room but we hardly used it.

This was the hallway leading up to our room, which was way in the end, passing the dormitory rooms.

Our booking included complimentary breakfast.  I was surprised that it was a buffet instead of the much common set breakfast.  This was a huge plus for the L Square Hotel because their food was delicious.  For breakfast the first day, there was longganisa, scrambled egg (best there is!), buttered veggies, battered fish fillet and fried rice.  Patrick liked their creamy macaroni soup.  Beverages included orange juice, coffee and water.  It was a hearty breakfast.  Wish we could have eaten more but we needed to leave early.  By the way, their breakfast is served between 6AM and 10AM.

On our 2nd day, it was still a buffet breakfast and this time, they served Maling, Scrambled Egg, Sardines in oil (I think), buttered veggies and chicken adobo.  There was also a veggie salad and soup.  Instead of orange juice, they served pineapple.  Still hearty and filling!  Plus, the staff was very pleasant and attentive.

If you can't resist a good background for your pictures, then the L Square Hotel will not disappoint you.  They encourage their patrons to share their pictures on social media.  You can see why...

The hotel also features a rooftop bar and karaoke rooms but we never got the chance to see or try for ourselves.

Our stay was uneventful and though there were slight bumps, it was still okay.  We hope that they can fix their router problem in the future and that their plumbing concerns will all be handled to avoid any inconvenience.

Our bill was P3,500/night plus taxes.  I think it was a bit expensive because it was the Undas Break so it's kind of a peak season rate. But if you can book at off season rates, the rooms are quite worth it.
