Free Bike Lessons and Bike Riding at the BGC courtesy of the National Bicycle Organization

17 September 2017

After a tiring day at the 2017 Manila International Book Fair yesterday, I didn't think we would have the energy to go bike riding today.  But the kids were driven to learn and wanted to go biking and so we found ourselves at the BGC-PruLife UK Family Zone.

The Bikes are Free.  Lessons are Free.  Just Enjoy!

I remember when I was younger, our family used to go to CCP (Cultural Center of the Philippines) during the weekends because there used to be a ton of bikes there for rent.  We'd spend a long time there and honestly, I think that's where I really learned how to ride a bike.

Just like it was then as it is now, we didn't have a place to safely learn how to ride a bike.  There are no longer bikes for rent in CCP and though we used to go to UP during the weekends for the same reason, sometimes there are time constraints that prevent us from going back regularly.

When Patrick told me that there were free bike rides and bike lessons at the BGC, I didn't think we could make it since we were pretty tired the day before but the kids were enthusiastic about it.  We were only able to go there around lunchtime because we woke up late, but we learned that they were open from 6AM up to 5PM, weather permitting.  Lunch time was perfect though because we were the only ones there :)

You just have to register and leave a valid ID.  You can actually take the bikes around the specified/marked bike lanes around BGC, hence the need for a valid ID.  The kids weren't going anywhere but around this area since they were only in the initial stages of learning. :)

Dana took quite a bit of time learning.  In the end, I could sense her frustration at not being able to get it quite so fast as Dylan.  Add to it, at some point, there were other younger kids riding bigger bikes than hers.  That's got to smart! :)  By the time we were going home, she had blisters on her hands from gripping the handlebars too tight.

Dylan was actually getting accustomed to riding his bike.  He just had trouble getting the balance down pat.  I actually have to commend his trainer for being patient with him :)

Here they are with their patient instructors :)  Thank you po!:)  I'm sure we'll be back next week :)

There is a donation box at the registration counter, should you wish to donate so that the organization can buy more bikes and keep what bikes they have well-maintained.  :)  So, what are you waiting for?  Let's go biking! :)
