Food Review: ErMeataño Meats

13 February 2021

Today would have been Patrick's birthday. It's been 2 months since he died.

We had already planned a small birthday memorial among us but we were surprised when Marco, one of his friends from Top Gear Philippines, reached out to us and sent us this HUGE Smoked Meat dish in Patrick's honor.

He said that he had always meant to send one to Patrick but after his stroke, he knew that this kind of luxurious slab of meat doesn't exactly meet Patrick's health and nutrition conditions. :)

So, on Patrick's birthday, we received this aromatic, hefty, juicy, flavorful and filling chunk of smoked meat from Marco. He had it delivered for us. It was his new business called ErMeataño and they offer these flavorful meats that have been smoked for as much as 10 hours! Can you believe that?!

I don't do the meats justice with my poor photographs, to be honest. What's funny is that we didn't really know what to make of it at first. HAHAHA I was thinking, "Should I still cook it in the oven? "Can we eat this as is?"

But the aroma really made our mouths water so we immediately put the slab on a plate and started cutting into it. The meat was really tender so even with a normal knife, the meat easily separates. The order also comes with their special barbecue sauce that's a perfect foil for the meat. It's a little sweet but tangy.

You can't finish this in one sitting! We tried hahaha but it was really filling especially with rice! Patrick would have loved it!

We actually barely touched the other servings on the table, like that Pancit Bihon haha We all went for the meat! :D

While we did receive the meat as a gift, you won't go wrong if you try it yourself. We'll probably order during someone's birthday too :)

Thanks Marco! Good luck to ErMeataño!

Happy birthday, Patrick!

Gulu Gulu PH at Savemore Nagtahan, Manila

28 February 2019

As you may know, we are always in search of new restaurants that serve delicious food.  It's always an adventure to try new dishes and new locations together.

I learned that a new Takoyaki store, Gulu Gulu PH opened last February 25 at our local neighborhood supermarket, Savemore Nagtahan.  It was exciting because it was near and pretty accessible and also, we're fans of Takoyaki.

So here are some pictures of the place and what we ordered during our trip.

NDPR Week Continuation: Film Showing and Food Festival

19-20 July 2017

Continuing with the celebration of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabiliation Week, Dylan's class participated in a Film Showing (Day 3)  and a Food Festival (Day 4).

You may wonder why there's a Film showing during NDPR week.  It's actually to test how long these kids can sit, focus and watch a full-length movie.  To normal people, sitting still for the whole length of a movie is a breeze.  But for special kids like Dylan and his friends, it's actually pretty difficult.

On Day 4, the food festival was done to encourage kids to prepare their own meals and to teach them to appreciate good food.  The kids made waffles!

Ramen Kuroda to satisfy our ramen cravings :)

02 May 2017

If we're talking about comfort food, Japanese ramen is what we want :)  So, once we discovered Ramen Kuroda, we always want to eat there :)  After our day at the National Planetarium, we were starving and in need of Ramen Kuroda's sustenance :)

When in UP Diliman: Rodic's and The Chocolate Kiss Cafe

19 October 2016

Patrick and I rarely go out on our own.  We usually bring the kids with us because it's really nice going out as a family.  Also, we don't have a babysitter so we just bring them with us :)  But today, we thought it best that they stayed where they were since we were attending a cremation for Patrick's uncle on his mother's side.  At the back of my mind, I was already thinking about where we'll head to for lunch and naturally, when we're in the UP area, my first thought was Rodic's Diner.

Manila Ocean Park 2016: Symphony Evening Show

13 October 2016

We are nearing the end of these posts about Manila Ocean Park.  Our last attraction for the day was the Symphony Evening Show.  It is a musical show featuring huge water fountains that shoot water straight up in the air, light displays on water and fire and fireworks.

The last show started at 7:15PM, although there was one before that at 630PM.  It lasts around 30 minutes.

A Baskin-Robbins Sundae Treat for the kids at Uptown Mall, BGC

12 October 2016

So, we were walking around aimlessly in Uptown Mall and the kids and I saw Baskin-Robbins along the way!  The kids were so excited because they know the brand from the movie, "Ant-Man".  Baskin-Robbins was where the character played by Paul Rudd, Scott Lang, used to work.  In honor of Ant-Man and of course, because we love ice cream, we tried it out :)

A taste of Ramen Kuroda at Mezza Residences

07 October 2016

If you follow my blog, you'll know that our family loves Japanese ramen.  We're always on the lookout for affordable yet delicious Japanese ramen throughout the metro.  We consider it good fortune to find some that are within the vicinity of our residence too.  That is why we were ecstatic when we found Ramen Kuroda at the Mezza Residences in Sta. Mesa, Quezon City.

Sincerity Cafe and Restaurant now at Robinsons Magnolia Food Court

02 October 2016

After buying our new 2 TB Seagate hard drive from our favorite computer shop, Dynamic PC in Gilmore, Patrick, Dylan and I headed to Robinsons Magnolia for lunch.  It's been a while since we've been to this Robinsons and we just walked around the mall looking for a new place to eat at.  When we got to the Food Court, we saw Sincerity Cafe and Restaurant and Patrick knew immediately that this is the place to eat at.

Dinner at Iguana's in Clark to cap off our Baguio Trip

28 September 2016

We knew that when we left Baguio around lunchtime, it would probably be dinner time when we reached Clark.  That meant having the opportunity to dine at our favorite restaurant in Clark - Iguana's Authentic Mexican Food.

Good Taste Cafe and Restaurant in Baguio lives up to its name

27 September 2016

The trick to making the most out of a trip is to make sure that when you leave your hotel, you already have a complete itinerary prepared with some leeway for adjustments and back up plans.  This preparedness actually saved the night for us because in our search for the Star Cafe along Session Road, we ended up eating at a new favorite dining destination - the Good Taste Cafe and Restaurant!

Visiting Baguio is not complete without Ube Jam from Good Shepherd

27 September 2016

The kids burned off all their energy playing at the Mini Golf and the playground next to it.  On our way back to our hotel to rest before dinner, we thought of passing by the Good Shepherd Mountain Maid Training Center to check if we can buy our favorite ube jam because our trip to Baguio wouldn't be complete if we didn't get some :)  With time to spare (it took us 30 minutes), we reached Good Shepherd.

Dining at the Mile Hi Diner at the Mile Hi Center in Camp John Hay in Baguio

27 September 2016

After the kids had their horseback riding adventure at Shalan ni Kabadjo, we knew it was time for some grub.  We passed by Mile Hi Center on the way to the Riding Center one time and we thought it would be a good idea to pick our restaurant from there.  Looking around, Dana chose to eat at Mile Hi Diner, I guess to avoid Tapa King and Dencio's which were Manila-based franchises.

Dinner at the iconic 50's Diner in Baguio City

26 September 2016

While here in Baguio, Patrick and I decided that we'd only eat at local restaurants and dining haunts because what's the point in traveling and educating our kids with the local culture if we're just going to end up at fast food franchises.  So, on our list of dining choices was the iconic 50's Diner at the corner of Upper Gen. Luna and Brent Roads.

Kids enjoyed making their own pizza at Amare La Cucina in Baguio

26 September 2016

Before we even went to Baguio, I already made a list of places that we wanted to dine at and on top of that list was the Amare La Cucina which was famous for having their own brick oven and they also let kids make the pizza they ordered.  After Mines View Park, we headed straight to Amare La Cucina which was fortunately in the same vicinity, located at the EGI Alberto Hotel near Wright Park.

Tokyo Tokyo's new Makirrito is a Delight!

22 September 2016

When we do our grocery shopping at Robinsons Otis, most of the time we end up eating at Tokyo Tokyo because we love their dishes. First, we love Japanese food.  Second, they're delicious! and Third, they're affordable.  Also, they're convenient because they're just right there :)

On our usual jaunt for dinner after grocery shopping, we spotted something new on the menu - MAKIRRITO!  It's a maki upsized into a burrito! :)  There were two flavors - Samurai Karaage and California Tempura.  See how the kids liked them :)

Tasting Bo's Coffee's "Sablan Reserve" Premium Washed Bourbon #boscoffee

02 July 2016

I love coffee and it's always a joy discovering new coffee products and tastes.  We received this 200g can of Sablan Reserve as a gift and it has been sitting in our pantry for a while now since it had to be ground before we could actually brew it.  It was worth the wait! :)

After-dinner desserts at Cafe Mary Grace in Robinsons Manila

25 June 2016

After a satisfying early dinner at Erra's Vest Ramen in Malate, we went back to Robinsons Manila because that was where we parked the car.  We went around the mall for a while, trying to walk off a sumptuous meal =)  We weren't aiming for anything in particular but we all came to stop when we reached the Cafe Mary Grace area.  Dylan, Patrick and I have tried their desserts when my friends and I met up one time in Makati.  Now, Dana was with us and we wanted to share the experience with her as well.

Ramen for 100 pesos or less at Erra's Vest Ramen in Malate, Manila

25 June 2016

Today, we received a treat from my cousin Joyce who asked me to take the kids somewhere nice for the day.  Patrick and I decided to go to Erra's Vest Ramen in Malate, Manila as they're known for authentic Japanese ramen for P100 or less.  Since we all love ramen and the price is a great come-on, we all trooped to Erra's Vest Ramen to explore their offerings.

Dinner at Ponte Rialto Ristorante Italiano in McKinley Hill

29 May 2016

After 2 hours of listening to great music from Bituin Escalante and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra Jazz Ensemble (read about it here), we all trooped to Ponte Rialto Ristorante Italiano in McKinley Hill.  This restaurant is owned by long-time friends and it's only been recently opened so we were simply honored to be invited.  They offer authentic Italian cuisine, a varied selection of wines and drinks, and an altogether cozy and warm atmosphere perfect for dining amidst the replica of the Venice Grand Canal.
