The Hyundai Veloster, Ma Mon Luk and walking around SM Mall of Asia

23 April 2017

So Patrick has had the Hyundai Veloster for the week and this is the last day we're able to ride in it as a family.  We took it for a ride to the 2017 Trans Sport Show.  This post is about the day that we had - dining at Ma Mon Luk and stuff we bought while walking around SM Mall of Asia after we took a break from the Trans Sport Show.

Walking around the 2017 Trans Sport Show

23 April 2017

It's summer and it's time for another car show!  This time, we went to the 2017 Trans Sport Show held between April 20-23 at the SMX Convention Center.  Patrick actually covered the event for Carmudi, so if you want to see better photos of the cars, check out the article here.  The Trans Sport Show's main attraction is the Nostalgic and Contemporary Car Competition but there are other events like the Moto Builds Pilipinas and plenty of automotive after-sales, custom-build services and related businesses to complete the experience.

Attended the Unmei Expo 2016: Career and Study Fair for Japanese Language Enthusiasts

16  October 2016

For someone who's interested in learning the Japanese language attending the Unmei Expo 2016 at the SMX in SM Mall of Asia is a must. It is the venue where Japanese schools and potential Japanese employers converge to give students and interested parties a chance to find out what's in store for the future for someone who's well-versed in the Japanese language.  It was held today, October 16, and Dana and I checked it out :)

Crazy, Frantic Day at the 2016 Manila International Book Fair #MIBF2016

16 September 2016

The Manila International Book Fair is among the many annual events that we look forward to as a family.  This year's MIBF is held at the SMX Convention Center in SM Mall of Asia from Sept 14-18, 2016, from 10AM - 8PM.  Admission Fees are P20 (Adults) and P15 for Seniors, PWD, and kids below 4 feet.  I think Students also  get a discount :)

We were able to bring home several books for the kids and possibly early Christmas gifts for close friends ;)

Check out what we saw at the Book Fair!

Day 1 of Toy Con 2016: Part 2 #ToyConPopLifeFanXperience

10 June 2016

This post is a continuation of our experience during the First Day of Toy Con 2016.  The first part of our Day 1 adventures focused on the ToyCon itself, with the Toys and Collectibles booths and exhibits.  This time, it's the PopLife FanX side of the event.  Halls 3 and 4 were dedicated to this part of the event.  Read on to see what the Stan Lee Excelsior Exhibit is all about.  Look at the giant, life-sized Funko Pop figures.  Check out pictures from the press con with Kristian Nairn, Dean Cain and Daniel Logan.

Day 1 of ToyCon 2016: Part 1 #ToyConPH2016

10 June 2016

Today, Patrick and I attended the ToyCon 2016 + Poplife Fan Xperience event at Halls 1-4 of the SMX at the SM Mall of Asia.  The Philippine Toys, Hobbies and Collectibles Convention, shortened to "ToyCon", is now on its 15th year and has partnered with PopLife (makers of the popular Funko Pop figures) and Salt Lake Comic Con producers Dan Farr and Bryan Brandenburg to add another dimension to the event with the highly anticipated "Poplife FanXperience".

The event showcases 3 days (June 10-12) of toys, cosplays, exhibits, performances, panels, photo ops and autograph signings.

For today, we saw the Stan Lee Excelsior Exhibit, attended the Press Con and interview panels with celebrities Kristian Nairn (Hodor of Game of Thrones), Dean Cain (Superman of Lois and Clark) and Daniel Logan (Young Boba Fett of Star Wars) and browsed the many booths and displays.

Today, we attended the opening of the Isuzu 4x4 Action Playground at the Exploreum Parking of the SM Mall of Asia.  The event features both the Isuzu mu-X and the D-Max as they both take on the Slipper Roller, the Articulation Ramp and the Action Playground's Highlight - the 20ft Thrill Hill, a 40 degree Transverse Angle Ramp.  The obstacle course showcases the powerful engines (163 PS maximum output and 380Nm maximum torque) of both vehicles and everyone is invited to participate from April 21-24, 10AM to 9PM.

The Launch of Adventure 4X Magazine at the 2015 Manila Auto Salon

14 November 2015

Last Saturday, we all attended the launch of the country's first and only off-road adventure/lifestyle magazine, Adventure 4X, at the 2015 Manila Auto Salon held at the SMX Convention Center in SM Mall of Asia.

Yamaha Tricity Grand Launch at the MOA Concert Grounds

January 25, 2015

Patrick was invited to the Yamaha Tricity Grand Launch at the MOA Concert Grounds and we went along with him.

The Yamaha Tricity is built with a revolutionary design called the Leaning Multi Wheel or LMW. "This system allows two front wheels to deal with changes in different road surfaces while keeping both tires in contact with the road as it leans. It provides a unique experience during each ride that is felt in every turn; any angle; surpassing the standards of style, performance, and technological innovation. "

We saw it in motion at the Test Drive Area and it was exciting to behold on the road :)

We arrived around lunchtime and the test drive was underway.  Since Patrick was part of the media, we were offered free lunch at the nearby Savory restaurant.

There wasn't much of a crowd by the time we returned probably because everyone was either still having lunch or avoiding the harsh sun.  It was perfect for us as we went around and took pictures because we had the area to ourselves.  At first, we simply took pictures with the bikes as the background because we weren't sure if we're allowed to ride them.  The kids loved the London and the Louvre Museum backgrounds :)

Now, when we were sure that it's safe and okay to ride on the Yamaha Tricity motorcycles on display, we took a few more pictures :)

We stood and watched the on-going presentation they had on the revolutionary engineering and design of the Yamaha Tricity motorbikes.

To quote the presentation, "Its function is perfected because of the harmonious integration of 2 key systems:

*A PARALLELOGRAM LINK, a system that allows the parallel leaning of two front wheels and separate functioning of independent suspensions.

*A CANTILEVERED TELESCOPIC SUSPENSION for the two front wheels with unique machine dimensions and geometry.

It also has a displacement of 125 cc and is available in all Yamaha 3s shops nationwide with the suggested retail price of PHP 146,000 and comes in matte red or white."

How I wish I were able to test drive it but I don't have a driver's license hahaha But it really looked cool to drive.  It looked especially balanced and comfortable too.

Disclosure:  Though Patrick was entitled to the free lunch, we were also privileged to have been included.  However, I would still have written the blog post regardless whether I was given free food or not.  It was a unique event which we all attended and therefore, I felt that I should write about it.  I do thank Yamaha and its organizers for the treat.

Meeting the Hyundai Zombie Car at SM MOA

October 12, 2013

Sometimes, Patrick just tells us to get dressed and we do without even knowing where we're going.  That was the case today when we went to the SM Mall of Asia.

Apparently, it was because of this car - the Hyundai Tucson turned Hyundai Zombie Car which was on display at the SM MOA.

The Manila Speed Show with Marlon Stockinger and the Lotus F1 Team

May 4-5, 2013

Patrick's job as a writer for Top Gear Philippines takes him to many car events that sometimes it becomes boring for us when we have to join him.  This is not one of those times.  I'm not really a fan of F1 though I sort of know what it is and I'm also not knowledgeable about the players and teams so I won't even attempt to talk about that.  But when Patrick mentioned that Marlon Stockinger was picked by Lotus to be one of its Junior Drivers to train and eventually compete for the team and they are here in the Philippines for a Road Show, well, I wanted to be there.

See, being there is like one step closer to the real F1 race and that's a world that not many of us get to experience.  The fact that it's being held at the SM Mall of Asia grounds makes it even accessible to everyone.  Patrick said there'll be an exhibit, a meet and greet and of course, Marlon will be driving the Lotus car around a "track" so that was exciting.

We first went to the exhibit at the Mall.  I wasn't sure what to expect since I didn't know if there were a lot of fans of F1 in Manila.  When we arrived, there was a growing throng of people around the area.  Some were fans, some were curious passersby who were wondering what the fuss was about.  Others were media men covering the event.

There were other things to see and do while at the Manila Speed Show.  There was go-kart racing as a precursor to Marlon's lap.  There were also cars on display.

As a Top Gear representative, Patrick got passes to get inside the "inner sanctum".  As his family, we also were given the same privilege :)  It was quite an eye-opener to see these gear and equipment at the Pit Stop :)  They had 2 cars here, one was a single-seater another was a two-seater.

Here are some animated gifs of the cars getting ready to run the track and returning to it.  The sound that car makes is deafening! Roar!! :)

Another lap in the afternoon
In the afternoon, Marlon was scheduled for another lap as you can see from the picture on the left but we took the time to rest from the heat.  We were directed to a Media Tent where there were some snacks and drinks.  We took advantage of the drinks because it was really hot.  We waited there because we were told that Marlon will be speaking for a few minutes when he returns from the drive.

The tent behind the car as it was driving away was for the VIP's.

After the lap, he took the time to walk around and thank his fans.
After a successful lap around MOA

It wasn't so bad in the media tent.  It was a cool break from the summer heat.  There were cold sodas and snacks to give you that extra boost of energy.  They also gave some swag like the caps and the bags with T-shirts inside :)

After a while, Marlon was in the tent and both he and his Mom were able to address the media.  We were able to take pictures with him too :)

The afternoon showcased a different activity.  We were able to see the pit crew in action as they showed us how to change tires FAST! :) As part of the fun, several media and celebrities got a chance to change the tires in a friendly competition.  Patrick was one of the participants!! He felt so lucky because it was an opportunity of a lifetime.  Never would he be able to do that thing again! :)

With the sun going down, the event wasn't over.  We still went back to the mall for the meet and greet with fans.  By that time, our energy level was getting low and it was just Patrick who went around taking pictures for the coverage.

It was such a wonderful time.  Marlon is such a nice fellow and we wish him well! :)

Kids: Dylan's Graduation Celebration

March 21, 2013

After the Graduation Ceremony at San Beda College, we all trooped to Mall of Asia for Dylan's celebration. We first had lunch at Masuki, one of our favorite noodle houses.  We had our usual orders of Chicken Mami, Beef Wanton Mami and Siopao.  They have hefty servings so you end up really full! Just look at the size of the siopao and it's not just air :)

After a very filling lunch, we had to burn off all that energy and those calories :)  We went to TimeZone!

Though it may seem a simple celebration, what's important is that we were together and the kids were happy :)
