When in UP Diliman: Rodic's and The Chocolate Kiss Cafe

19 October 2016

Patrick and I rarely go out on our own.  We usually bring the kids with us because it's really nice going out as a family.  Also, we don't have a babysitter so we just bring them with us :)  But today, we thought it best that they stayed where they were since we were attending a cremation for Patrick's uncle on his mother's side.  At the back of my mind, I was already thinking about where we'll head to for lunch and naturally, when we're in the UP area, my first thought was Rodic's Diner.

When the ceremony was over, it was around lunch time and since we were in the Quezon City area, we decided to drop by our favorite "comfort food" restaurant - Rodic's in UP Diliman.  We absolutely love their tapsilog (as pictured below): strips/flakes of dried beef, fried rice and egg.  I know there's a newer branch in UP Town Center but the ambience of the UP Diliman branch is unbeatable hehe

After the hearty serving of Tapsilog, we were craving for desserts and we decided to go to The Chocolate Kiss Cafe, a popular dining spot in UP.  We've planned to go many times but never actually got to so I was glad for this opportunity.

When we arrived, their Ground Floor space was still packed with the late-lunch crowd so we headed to their 2nd Floor.  We perused their menu for future reference but Patrick and I were more interested in their desserts.  Patrick ordered the Kahlua Butter Cake while I tried their Devil's Food Cake.

Kahlua Butter Cake = P150
Devil's Food Cake = P100

What can I say? I liked the comfortable and homey ambience of The Chocolate Kiss Cafe.  They had a variety of dishes being served:  Filipino, pasta, merienda (snacks) and specialties.  The Devil's Food cake was delicious.  I liked that the icing wasn't too sweet and paired well with the chocolate.  Though I prefer my chocolate cake to be a bit moist, this was still good :) And, it was a big slice :)

Patrick's Kahlua Butter cake was special :)  It was strong yet subtle.  I liked it.  Next time! :)

We took home a sampler called Chocolate Kiss Suite, which included four (4) flavors of cake of your choice.  We chose Devil's Food Cake, Carrot Cake, Quezo Chiffon Cake and the Dayap Chiffon Cake.  The other flavors are Orange Chiffon Cake and Prune Cake.

Chocolate Kiss Suite = P120

The carrot cake was a bit sweet for my taste but the Quezo and Dayap Chiffon cakes were just divine!  Absolutely mouth-watering! :)  They were so light and refreshing, I think another trip to UP is in the works as I type :)
